PROPOSALS which will see a major growth in the population of Okehampton go under the spotlight today (Thursday). Plans for more than 500 new homes, plus a site for a second primary school on land between Exeter Road and Crediton Road go on show in the Charter Hall this afternoon. The site has already been allocated in the West Devon Local Plan for residential development and these initial plans set out core principles of an outline planning application rather than the finer details. Local councillors will be keen to scrutinise the plans, particularly in relation to traffic issues. They would like to see a larger road provided through the site, bearing in mind the size of the development and the increase in vehicle movements it would bring. The consultancy event is an opportunity for town residents to see the plans and have their say on future development in their town. The exhibition will be open to the public from 2.30pm to 8pm.
