A LARGE illuminated cross for Tavistock’s Grade II Listed Abbey Chapel has been supported by town councillors.

The application for the installation of the cross, on the eastern side of the chapel, was submitted to West Devon Borough Council by Roger Bird of Abbey Chapel, as a revised plan, for Listed building and advertisement consent.

The application was discussed by members of Tavistock Town Council’s development management and licensing committee last Tuesday (July 21) and they voted in support of the installation for a 4m by 3m LED light illuminated cross.

Abbey Chapel leaders felt that following positive comments it received about its LED cross at Christmas, they would apply for a permanent cross to indicate that it is an active church.
