A PLAN for a polytunnel by Proper Job community co-operative in Chagford to extend their activities has been refused by Dartmoor National Park Authority because it would have a detrimental visual impact on the park.
Proper Job wanted to change part of the existing Market Field to provide an additional area for cultivating crops and as a demonstration area for home composting.
The proposal included the relocation of a 32m x 7.5m polytunnel from the adjoining industrial site to a corner of the Market Field.
Some DNP members felt the benefits to be gained from the proposed change of use of the land would outweigh the detrimental visual impact of the polytunnel but the authority voted to support the planning officer's recommendation for refusal at a recent meeting.
