CHARITY Young Devon is looking for people with a spare room who can offer disadvantaged young people a supportive and nurturing environment as part of an innovative new programme — Plan B.

Healthy, safe and effective homes are being sought to enable young people to learn and develop the skills necessary to become successful and resilient members of society.

In return hosts will be offered a package of financial, training and care support to help these young people learn how to stand on their own two feet and to become genuinely independent.

Head of Mental Health and Well Being at Young Devon Keith Coulston said: 'We all begin life dependent on others for our survival and care. For most of us that is a positive experience but some young people don't have that experience.

'Each of us needs to be able to live with and alongside others, to interact positively with family, community, groups of friends or workmates.

'To succeed we need to learn to become interdependent and Plan B looks to do this by giving young people the right home environment.

'Plan B recognises that to let go of their behaviours, it is vital that young people are given another option that offers a more healthy and constructive way of getting their emotional needs met. That is why a safe and supportive home is so important for them.'

Anyone who thinks they can help a young person to learn and develop confidence in living well while learning to manage their less helpful behaviours better, can contact Keith Coulston at Young Devon via email at: [email protected]">[email protected] or visit http://www.youngdevon.org">www.youngdevon.org
