THE seventh annual wine and Wisdom quiz evening for Devon Aid-Korogwe held recently attracted 23 teams from a wide area within West Devon and beyond, raising the wonderful total of £700.

Devon Aid?Korogwe is a small charity that helps to provide safe water to rural villages in the Korogwe District of Tanzania.

The popular quiz evening was held in the parish hall at Bratton Clovelly. David Arney?s compilation of questions encouraged friendly competition between all the teams.

After what has become almost a regular contest between the eventual winners and home team runners-up, Peter Sleeman and friends from Lifton narrowly won the evening.

Warm thanks were extended to David, scorers David and Susan Hill, the teams, all who brought draw prizes and those who helped put the evening together.

Devon Aid-Korogwe is run by Graham and Vivien England, of Bratton Clovelly, and helps to provide vital access to clean water in rural settlements in Tanzania.

All funds always go directly to the project, Trustees give their time freely and promotional expenses are sponsored separately.

The Englands have visited Korogwe five times in the last nine years and are delighted to see the improvements the charity has been able to make to the local communities.

More children are attending school regularly because diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases are not keeping them at home.

On their visit this February, Vivien said they saw the problems last year?s drought had created, forcing villages with dried up water holes to go to the polluted river inhabited by crocodiles. Every year there are people who lose their lives - some are ?luckier? and lose only limbs!

There are a tremendous number of villages in desperate need of help but Devon Aid-Korogwe believes to help a few is better than to help none at all.

The charity is always looking for people to help with fundraising, and Vivien is happy to show slides to any group or organisation.
