Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 2 Penzance 2 THERE was no 60th birthday present of three points for club secretary Eric Pinch ? the Lambs had to settle for just one. It started well with them going forward but with the visitors? first real attack after eight minutes they found themselves a goal down. The ball was lost in midfield then the defence stopped to appeal for offside as Dan Magee surged forward. Andy Meeds blocked his attempt at goal but the ball fell to Paul Cox to turn home. Despite this setback the Lambs continued to run the show and got back on level terms on 24 minutes. Kevin Parker turned and shot from the edge of the area. His cross was met by John Hajiyianni minutes later but his close range header was beaten away by keeper Paul Williams. The Lambs continued to create chances but were finding it difficult to turn them into goals and with 33 minutes gone found themselves behind again ? Cox raced down the right to cross in low for Karl Turner to steer home after Meeds parried the first shot. Paul Cowling almost got the leveller on the stroke of half-time when a long kick out by Meeds was not dealt with by the Penzance defence but his header over the keeper went just wide. The home side should have got back level in the second half with Steve Daly putting in a great low cross but there was no one on the end of it. James Steer created a wonderful chance for sub James Donnallon but as the ball came across the area he missed the chance of a simple tap in. It was not until the 90th minute before the Lambs finally got back on level terms when Mike Arscott, pushing forward from defence, put in a far post cross for Daly to head downwards and home for a fortunate but deserved equaliser. The Lambs could have put the icing on the birthday cake into injury time as scorer and provider changed roles but Arscott?s effort in front of goal was touched wide. Fixtures ? Saturday, Carlsberg SWL home to Goonhavern, 2.45pm. Sunday, Vets home to South Brent, 10.30am. Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 0 Callington 0 BOTH sides will have been thankful to come out of this game with a point. From the Lambs? point of view it was a clean sheet after three heavy defeats, and for Callington it keeps their unbeaten run going. The Lambs were still missing their three main strikers and in came Paul Cowling to lead the attack. Ex-Lambs player Matt Martin almost opened the scoring for the visitors after just ten minutes. The Lambs had more of the play with Kevin Parker flashing a shot wide and Lee Coxon curling one just over with Danny Murdoch having a good chance for the visitors. The Lambs continued to create chances at the beginning of the second half but could not get it on target. The best chance of the game fell to Callington?s Martin after 55 minutes as he raced clear of the defence, but keeper Andy Meeds came from his line to smother the attempt. Callington?s keeper Adam Fuller clutched a Mike Arscott header from a Coxon free kick minutes later to keep the score goalless. The visitors could easily have sneaked all three points but again it was Meeds saving from Gareth Jones with 15 minutes remaining. Sub Daley Simpson put one over the bar with four minutes left, with Meeds saving from Lee Crook in the last minute, and then tipped over a high cross seconds later to keep honours even. Despite it being goalless it was an entertaining game played in a good spirit with a draw being a fair result.
