A PILOT holiday club scheme in Princetown may provide information that will enable the Devon Early Years partnership to develop sustainable child care in the West Devon area.
The 'We can choose' holiday club, which is being held at Wesley House and the adjacent family centre, is for children aged 3-14 years.
The club is being run for a two-week pilot period, ending tomorrow (Friday), and will provide an opportunity to ask the children of Princetown the type of activities they would like to be able to take part in during any further holiday clubs.
Circus skills, pottery, sports, creating a giant wall hanging and moving to music are some of the activities provided for this club, which is being run by the High Moorland Community Action Group.
Lorraine Barlow, development worker with Devon Early Years, said the provision of holiday care in isolated areas was a particular problem due to access, numbers of children who are able to attend and costs incurred.
'The holiday club is providing the children with a safe place to meet, and talk to, their friends. After the sessions the children will be asked to vote for their favourite activity,' she said.
Ms Barlow added that it was hoped this pilot scheme would provide information to enable them to develop sustainable child care in the West Devon area in the future.
The club is sponsored by the West Devon District Forum of the Devon Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership, together with other groups including the High Moorland Community Action Group, Princetown Pre-school group and members of the Moorland team ministry.
