A PICTURE conjuring up the mood of Dartmoor was presented to Okehampton Community Hospital last week by Christian leaders in the town.
The artist behind the picture entitled ?Dartmoor Moods? was a man of the cloth himself, the Rev Paul Hardy, ex-Methodist Minister of Northlew.
Mike Davies, chairman of Christians together in Okehampton (CtiO) said: ?Paul Hardy had been commissioned by the Okehampton churches to provide a picture for CtiO, which could then be presented to the new Okehampton hospital.?
Mr Hardy attended the presentation last Thursday to see his artwork handed over to staff at the hospital.
Mr Hardy said he had decided on a ?typical picture of Dartmoor? which focused on the ?atmospheric? presence of the moor rather than a specific location.
?It came together rather quickly as it was an image I had in my mind for quite a while, as one does as a painter,? he added.
Mr Hardy, who now lives in Exeter, said he had taken up painting when he retired 12 years ago, but the commission from Christians Together had come ?out of the blue?.
Margaret Hamer, who is the modern matron at the hospital, received the painting on behalf of the hospital in the absence of Val Mansfield.
Mrs Norma Hynes also presented an engraved Cross and a New Testament to the hospital on behalf of the Catholic Women?s League.
The picture, cross, and New Testament are situated in the hospital quiet room.
