THE toasty warmth of Tavistock Pannier Market was called into question during a meeting in the town last week.
Cllr Debo Sellis told members of the town council's properties committee that while it was delightful that people could shop comfortably in the market during the winter, and traders could operate easily, sometimes, the heating was uneccessary.
Cllr Sellis said: 'Sometimes it's really hot in there.
'I think it's absolutely brilliant it's warm, but sometimes, I think it's a little excessive.'
Town clerk Roger Howard said the Victorian building posed a problem regarding its heating, although efforts to save heat and make it more economical to run were taking place.
'It's a dinosaur of a system and it's very difficult to control,' he said.
Works superintendent Wayne Southall said heating the market was an ongoing challenge but that the thermostat was being investigated.
