OKEHAMPTON A men's hockey team got their league season off to a great start with an impressive win over Truro.

The young Okehampton side acquitted themselves well early on and as the game opened up Sam Bedford played a defence-splitting pass to Phil Mellor. He gathered the ball well and shot for Okehampton's opening goal.

Okehampton consolidated their lead after a neat passing move which gave Richard Jones the chance to score.

Sam Bedford, who had an excellent game, added a third with a well struck shot from the edge of the circle.

Okehampton went off the boil towards the end of the half and let Truro back into the game on the stroke of half-time.

But Okehampton killed off the game early in the second half when Darren Phare followed up a half saved short corner and tapped in from close range.

Truro scored a consolation goal towards the end.
