East Cornwall premier
Probus 1
Bere Alston United 2
BERE Alston continued their recent good form with a second consecutive 2-1 win against Probus, making it three wins in a row and extending their unbeaten run to five.
On a heavy pitch, Bere started brightly but soon lost the initiative, and, just like the previous week, Probus looked sharper as the first half wore on. It took a great save from Bere's Craig Howells to deny Probus the lead, but on the half hour Bere eventually fell behind when from a needlessly conceded free kick Dominic Pullen headed Probus in front.
If Bere needed a wake-up call, that was it and they were level within a minute when, after an interchange of passes between Dan Follett and Will Westlake, Follett sent Dan Pethick clear to equalise with a clinical near post finish.
The teams went in level at the break, but the introduction of the lively Marcus Pethick at half time saw Bere Alston take the game to their opponents and they looked a far more potent force going forward in the second half with a series of counter attacks, which only lacked that elusive final touch. Despite a more physical approach from Probus, to their credit Bere kept their composure and responded in perfect fashion when in the 80th minute, Kyle Robinson centred for Mike Curtis to give Bere the lead.
Probus pressed for a late equaliser by playing the last ten minutes with three strikers but Bere's defence, well marshalled by the superb man of the match Lee Howells, held on for a hard earned victory.
This win lifts Bere Alston into seventh place in the table and with a run of three consecutive home games to come they will be looking to continue their good form and consolidate their first season in the premier league as high as possible.
• On Saturday Bere Alston are at home to St Stephens, kick off 2.30pm.
