THE first Taste and See meeting of the new year took place at the Ordulph Arms where lawyer Caroline Mitchell spoke about her professional and personal life under the title, ' In the Lion's den? Perspective of a Christian lawyer' . Caroline is a partner in Foot Anstey and specialises in employment law. She gave an insight into how she trained as a lawyer part time while her children were young and this was in addition to the demanding role as a parent of a daughter with cystic fibrosis. A few years ago, Caroline was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer and underwent extensive treatment. She now classifies herself as a cancer survivor and lives life to the full, working full-time and pursuing hobbies and community activities, including an active involvement in her local church. Throughout her life she has held a Christian faith and she described how she believes her relationship with God has grown particularly in the tough times. Ruth Newman, chairman of Taste and See, thanked Caroline for an inspirational talk. The next Taste and See will be combined with the men's equivalent initiative, 'Food for Thought', in Tavistock Town Hall on Friday April 25. Acclaimed national writer and speaker Dennis Wrigley, from Manchester, will talk on the subject of Forgiveness and a Nation in Need. He will also be leading an event at Tavistock Methodist Church the following day, focusing on healing. Taste and See is organised by a committee representing churches of the Tavistock area and is open to all women of any age. For further information contact Ruth Newman on 01822 616859.
