THERE were some fine specimens in the pig section and the show has yet again been a real 'show window' for its many exhibitors and their prime entries.
Deborah Custance-Baker, the secretary, said: 'This year we have 50 pigs and all different kinds of breeds, including the popular Kune-Kune pigs. We have also had more Saddlebacks than the Mid Devon Show.
'Great entry numbers, quality animals, a beautiful country setting and fantastic weather, what more could you want?'
Among those agreeing with Deborah was Caroline Dunstan, from Constantine near Falmouth whose pig Dinah was named the show's British Saddleback champion. Caroline shows pigs for farmer Michael Dunstan and told the Times that even though it means getting up at 5am and a really long day before they arrive home, it is all worth it.
She said: 'The Okehampton Show is a really nice show. Traditional agricultural shows are getting rarer and rarer and apart from the Royal Cornwall this one is the nearest we can show our pigs, so it's really important to us. It's a real shop window.'
