Carlsberg South Western League
Penzance 3
Tavistock 1
THE Lambs had the chance to move up to seventh place in the league with this game but failed with a dismal performance.
They found themselves a goal down after just eight minutes when a poor clearance saw the ball drop on the edge of the area for Nigel Thwaites to shoot low past Andy Meeds.
The Lambs were unlucky not to have equalised on 15 minutes when Lee Beer's cross was volleyed over from close range by Steve Daymond before the Lambs found themselves two down. Meeds had already palmed away a vicious near-post corner and from a similar second one Mark Wall's sliced attempt at stopping it only saw it loop over the defence into the net.
The Lambs had the ball in the net midway through the half but a late flag for offside denied them.
Tavistock got back into the game ten minutes prior to the interval with a well worked goal. It was from a Beer run that Wall supplied Simon Parnell. He passed to Daymond, whose first touch took it away from him towards the keeper but the young striker won the challenge with Paul Williams and the ball fell kindly for him to stroke home.
Tavistock came out for the second half with more purpose and for the first 15 minutes pegged the Magpies back in their own half. But the hosts' first real break produced a goal. Again it was a half-headed clearance that was volleyed back over the defence for Duane Britton to run onto and strike low past Meeds. It was curtains for the Lambs from then on as they did not look likely in pulling back a two-goal deficit.
