MANY pensioners in West Devon are likely to be missing out on the government?s new pension credit despite being entitled to it, according to the West Devon and Torridge Liberal Democrat prospective parliamentary candidate David Walter. Figures obtained by Mr Walter show that 5423 people in the constituency draw pension credit at the moment but that 7392 are probably eligible to receive it. He said: ?Things have gone from bad to worse with the new pension credit. ?The problem with this scheme is that the forms are so complicated that large numbers of older people find them impossible to complete, while others feel too proud and independent to apply for the money to which they are entitled. ?The only guaranteed way to ensure that pensioners have dignity and security in old age is through a decent state pension, payable as of right.?
