FUNDRAISING events to raise money for one of Okehampton's prominent community groups will be stepping up a gear in July. A sponsored bike ride will be taking place on Sunday, July 13 to raise funds for Okehampton's Guiding Association's new hut. The ride will start from Okehampton Station and follow the cycle track to Meldon Village Hall where there will be a barbecue, cream teas and different stalls. Anyone can take part and the track can be walked as well as cycled. The event will start at 11am and entry will either be through sponsorship or by a £5 fee per family, £2 per adult and £1 per child which will include a free burger or hot dog. The Guiding Association are hoping to have the new hut up and running by April next year and are currently trying to raise funds through various different activities that will be taking place throughout the year.
