A PETITION calling for an end to violence will be started at a peace gathering in Tavistock town centre this Saturday.
Tavistock Peace Action group will gather in Bedford Square for an hour at 10.30am to show their concern and opposition to the military action in Afghanistan.
Group member Ginnie Davies said: 'We support the use of international law and the normal channels of extradition to bring to justice the perpetrators of the September 11 attacks on the USA.
'The use of massive violence by the West against Afghanistan, however, is only likely to create more suicide bombers and increase the threat to the security of our lives.'
She said the humanitarian crisis and food shortages in Afghanistan could only be addressed once the joint US and UK military attacks have ceased.
Tavistock Peace Action Group intend to repeat their gathering in the Square on Saturday December 1, between 11am and noon.
