OPPOSITION to the military action being taken against Afghanistan will be the subject of a gathering in Bedford Square in Tavistock this Saturday.
The Tavistock Peace Action Group will be meeting in the square between 11am and noon and will be asking members of the public to join the assemblage and to sign a petition calling for an end to the cycle of violence.
Group member Margaret Quinn said: 'We support the use of international law and the normal channels of extradition to bring the perpertrators of September 11 to justice.
'Only when the threat of US/UK attack has been lifted and the international borders opened can the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan be solved and famine averted.'
The group, which was formed in the late 1970s, meets when it feels there is a need and Margaret said they were 'very concerned' at the moment.
A letter with 51 signatories was published in the Times on September 27, expressing their disquiet with the situation and pointing out that the taking-out of one man would not solve the problem of terrorism against the West.
