Duchy Premier Gunnislake 2 St Dominic 2 A SOMEWHAT unusual early season fixture schedule saw these two sides meet for the second time in four days. Buoyed by the return of a few key players, in particular keeper Andy Brenton, Gunnislake showed much better than they had done when losing 3 nil in the previous meeting. Saints took a 15th minute lead. The visitors then had the better of matters before Gunnislake got stronger towards the latter stages of the half. On the hour mark the hosts deservedly drew level. Stuart Wakenshaw, not for the first or last time, got in to the penalty area and delivered a good low cross and Stef Kelly coming in from the opposite touchline converted. It was not long before Gunnislake took the lead. Matt Avery found Jarryd Kelly who surged away from two defenders to slot home. An already open game became even more stretched as Saints searched for an equaliser and Gunnislake looked to extend their lead. On 85 minutes the hosts were made to pay for missing those chances when Saints levelled. Gunnislake 2 Polperro 1 TIM May and Garfield Ewing took charge for the first time and oversaw this hard fought victory. With no available keeper outfield player Matt Avery went between the sticks. He made two good stops in an opening 45 minutes in which his team was the better side. Strikes from brothers Stef and Jarryd Kelly saw the hosts go in to the interval with a deserved 2 goal lead. Polperro were much the better side in the second half. But a resolute defensive display aided by an Avery penalty save ensured Gunni only conceded an injury time goal and so took all 3 points. Duchy division 5 Gunnislake reserves 3 Stoke Climsland 2 CRICKET and holidays saw to it that the joint management partnership of Steve Gaggini and Joe Pulley needed to use 4 players who had earlier in the day played in the premier division fixture. These included attacker Matt Avery who again went in goal and made some good saves and defender Mark Warwick who went up front and scored twice. Gunni?s third goal came from Steve Cribb. All Gunni?s goals came in an opening 45 minutes in which they would have scored more but for an excellent display of goalkeeping from the Stoke number 1. Saturday sees the reserves visit Stratton whilst the premier side entertain Sticker. Both matches kick off at 2.30pm.
