Tavistock U15s 29

Paviors (Nottingham) U15s 5

TAVISTOCK started with determination and after only a couple of minutes James Kaminski broke down the blind side to open the scoring.

The forwards dominated in rucks and mauls being quick to the break down and frequently securing good second phase ball.

From this sort of situation a ball was worked out to the backs to enable Joel Smith to ground the ball under the posts; converted by Sam Smeardon.

Excellent tackling by Haig Gorman, Tom Pearceson and George Scotts snuffed out most of Paviors' efforts.

From a lineout deep in the opposition half a long ball to the back of the line was well read by Ross Tregidgo who intercepted it to crash through to add to the try tally.

The second half started with the tourists playing with more determination, but relentless intrusions into the opposition's defences by Wayne Downham ensured that Tavistock's forwards dominated.

A well flighted pass to winger Tom Payne put him clear and by changing the angle of his run he was able to score a well executed try.

The opposition responded with positive rucking from which they secured their first and only try of the game.

Despite injuries to Wayne Downham and David Hutchins the team rallied to continue to pile on the pressure. Following several phases of rucked ball, man of the match,George Scotts took a popped pass to crash over the line.

This was one of Tavistock's better performances this season and shows a return to form that promises good results. The extra training sessions and the help of first team player Adam Bridgewater to coach the backs, should ensure sound progress.

Tavistock U14s 0

TAVISTOCK had the misfortune to draw one of the strongest squads in Devon, away in the first round of the Devon Knockout Cup.

Tavistock had little to offer in the first half as the home team threw the ball to the wings to run in six tries without response.

The second half saw the visitors reduced to 14 men but they began to commit themselves with strong tackling by Sam Morton, Greg Moore, Kyle Langdon and Dave Goodspeed.

The home try line was almost breached after a mazy run by Greg Moore in the centre followed by powerful runs from props Rob Finch and Colin Walker.

Sam Lawson made the opposing defence wary of his power as he charged into them from free kicks after the Tavistock defence forced handling errors by the attacking three quarters.

Rory Dyer was his usual belligerent self with ball in hand and crossed the gain line most times.

Despite the big score. Tavistock made the home team work hard.

Man of the match: Sam Morton.
