TO the Authorities and their representatives responsible for the cycle track from the A386 to Anderton Lane. Thank you!
You have created a potential serious accident site. The pedestrian footpath is used by parents taking and fetching childen from Whitchurch Primary School, by pupils of Tavistock College and by pedestrians walking to and from the town, the bus stops and the superstores.
Several senior citizens also have properties fronting onto this path and now have to be very wary of stepping onto the once safe footpath. The majority of cyclists appear to be careful but the rest seem to treat this path as a racetrack and have no respect for other users. No audible warnings are used and they think it's funny to approach from the rear and suddenly rush past on either side.
The authorities have been praised for this so called safe cycle path, but they have completely overlooked the views, feelings and wishes of residents and pedestrian users and I suspect might well suffer come the next local and county elections.
I appreciate the scheme is a national issue but surely a different route could have been found to avoid the very real dangers that will arise in a residential area. When the inevitable accident occurs I hope those responsible are prepared to accept the blame and feel the appropriate guilt.
