PEOPLE of all ages are invited to attend an open day on Saturday, April 5, at Lewdown Recreation Field to enjoy an evening of 'Pasties and Cider' (apple juice for the youngsters) in aid of Lewdown Cricket Club. Club secretary Jack Skuse said: 'It is a great opportunity to get to know the players and to learn about the aspirations of this vibrant and upcoming club in an informal and relaxing atmosphere.' The club is calling for volunteers to assist in the planned Nat West Cricket Force day of activities to be followed by an evening of signing on of members, pasties and cider and good cricket banter. Volunteers are also needed the next day, Sunday, to help with cleaning, repairing and decorating that needs to be carried out at the ground. Having celebrated its centenary in 2006, Lewdown CC has enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence, with facility improvements ongoing including fixed and wheel away nets, Astroturf wicket, a new pavilion with the addition this year of a car parking area and a bar. The club supports three youth teams, the U13s and U11s playing in the Tamar youth league and the U15s playing in the competitive Palladium league for the first time. Two adult Saturday teams play both in the Tamar league and having been fourth last season the Devon League side will be travelling all across the county. Two evening league teams will be playing each other this year in the same league to add a bit of extra spice, and the friendly matches complete the cricketing opportunities. Coaching this year will take place for young players on Wednesday evenings with our qualified overseas player, Jack Boot from Australia. The club is hoping to offer adult coaching on Thursday evenings from a well respected and experienced qualified coach.
