Bodmin Trophies Duchy 5 Pelynt Reserves 0 Gunnislake Reserves 5 GUNNISLAKE dominated with keeper Ian Gray a virtual spectator, only having to occasionally sweep over hit throughballs. The winning margin would have been greater but for the woodwork and an excellent performance from the Pelynt keeper who was arguably man of the match. In the opening 45 minutes Gunnislake played excellent football and created good positions but only managed to convert one into a goal. Ironically, this came from some scrappy play that saw Darren Sambells score from close range at the second attempt. Sambells had already struck the cross bar with a lob. Other efforts included a Dean Martin header that went just over, an Adam Brimacombe shot that was wide, a Neil Kinger shot brilliantly saved, with Aaron Pethick also having a couple of shots well saved. The same pattern continued in the second period except that more of the efforts found the net. The central defensive partnership of Martin and joint manager Steve Gaggini showed the way. Firstly, Martin fired home from close range after an Ashley Dobson corner. Another Dobson corner saw Gaggini finish from eight yards with a well controlled left foot volley. Fellow veteran defender Mark Southcott also almost got in on the act when his header from a Pethick corner was saved. The left side partnership of Pethick and Allan Doidge continued to cause problems and from two of their build-ups the ball found Stef Kelly who had 20-yard shots. His first effort struck the bar but his second flew in to the goal. Jarryd Kelly completed the scoring when the third of three fiercely struck efforts he had proved to good for the Pelynt keeper. Gunnislake, who went top of the table with this win, face a potentially difficult match this Saturday when the unpredictable St Austell visit for a 2.30pm kick-off. The premier side to travel St Merryn, having had a weekend off their home fixture was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
