FUN runners looking to improve their fitness as part of a new year's resolution are being asked to stretch their muscles, dig out their running shoes and raise as much money as possible for the Okehampton Sport Relief Mile.

There are Sport Relief miles being held in Okehampton and Moretonhampstead on Sunday, March 23, and Parklands Leisure Centre is hosting a Sport Relief Swimathon from March 21 to 23, encouraging swimmers to paddle 1.5 kilometres, 2.5 kilometres or five kilometres.

The major event for West Devon is the Okehampton Mile, which takes place in the grounds of Simmons Park and Okehampton College. Since its inception, the Okehampton event has raised around £30,000, and this year's event should prove to be a great success.

As well as the mile run, there will be sports, arts and music events to keep supporters entertained. In 2013 Okehampton Foodbank, OCRA and Fairtrade Okehampton were just some of the organisations who had attractions in the park.

The route will be a flat circular route, and participants can register to run one mile, three miles or six miles. Registration is at 10am with the day finishing at 3pm. Sunday, January 12 is the last day runners can register at half the cost.

The Moretonhampstead Mile starts at the Moretonhampstead Sports and Community Centre, with a route around the sports field of one, three or six miles. Registration starts at 10am, and the event finishes at 2pm.
