LIBERAL Democrats in West Devon and Torridge have appointed Adam Symons as the parliamentary spokesman for the party in the constitutency.

Mr Symonds said he was pleased the local party had shown faith in him. 'Torridge and West Devon still needs a full-time voice defending the interests of the people. I will continue to stand up for those who need a voice, and show people what a local hard-working representative can achieve.

'These are difficult times for many local people. The former Government has left our finances in a mess. We need to make difficult decisions, but at the same time protect those people who have the most need. Our job is to moderate and find a balance between necessary budget reductions and the need for investment in infrastructure and public services.'

Mr Symons fought the seat at the general election in May. It was won by Conservative Geoffrey Cox.
