MORE than 400 objections have been submitted to Cornwall Council from Callington residents against the proposed car parking increases.

Cornwall Council plans to raise the first hour car parking fee from 20p to 50p in a bid to bring standard car parking prices across Cornwall. There has been a mounting protest in the former Caradon district where cheaper car parking fees where introduced in the past to help struggling town centres. In Liskeard more than 5,000 people have signed a petition.

Cllr Andrew Long from Callington said: 'We will find every legal, moral and ethical reason to object to this.'

The responses to the consultation will be discussed by Cornwall Council's parking panel next Wednesday (December 15).
