I FAIL to see how parking meters will change the situation in Tavistock. It is said that the current system is abused (eg, people parking all day) due to there being only four enforcement officers for the whole of West Devon.

The proposed charges will not be enough to employ more officers, and if there are to be no extra officers there will be no more monitoring and control than there is now.

It seems that the council tax payers will have paid for the purchase, installation, and maintenance of meters with no improvement of the parking problem.

I personally do not have a problem parking in Tavistock. I often find on-street parking, and if not, there are three car parks in the town centre at Bank Square, Brook Street (Somerfield, with a rebate of the first hour), and Guildhall. There are four other car parks within walking distance.
