AS a local resident and businessman with interests in both Chagford and Hatherleigh I have, since the introduction of parking charges in both towns, been horrified to see that the car parks are extremely under-used, and I understand also that the ticket machines may even have been sabotaged.
Isn?t it time that the town planners and county councillors introduce somewhat more draconian means, (I would suggest yellow lines throughout these towns to start with) to force those revolutionary swine, who will insist on parking outside their own homes and businesses, to use these vital and much needed money making facilities?
I am greatly looking forward to the day when both these towns and communities have had the hearts ripped out of them and been killed off commercially. I would then be able, possibly, to visit them without having the bother of unnecessary cars, vans, lorries etc cluttering up the streets, and would not have to spend any money in those completely pointless shops and businesses that won?t exist.
Perhaps when that time comes they can also ban cars from the local schools during the week and churches on Sunday, this will help get rid of all those awful traffic jams and congestion. In fact, do we need thriving rural towns and villages at all?
