AS residents of the lower end of Down Road, Tavistock, may we explain through your paper the difficulty we have by the heavy use of the road as a parking area? Although perfectly legal, the nose to tail parking leaves us with no vision at all as we are trying to exit our properties by car. As a result, we are forced to exit inch by inch, hoping luck is on our side and that we can reach the road without mishap. Unfortunately, last week there was a collision, an accident waiting to happen. We first wrote to the council about our concerns with the situation in 2002, and this has been followed by several others to both the town and borough councils. We have also voiced our concerns to the police. One reply we receive is that parking here is acceptable as the road is wider and therefore safer than many others in Tavistock. Surely the council has a responsibility to its taxpayers to ensure that roads are able to be accessed and used with safety? This includes being able to leave your property.
