aSO £200,000 has been spent on improving the verges of the old A30? (Times, July 31). Didn?t they look natural enough already?

Think what each of the five parishes along that road could have done with their £40,000 share, for the benefit of the community.

But all credit to Mr Westlake for getting hold of the money. It?s just a pity that some crazy European rule said it could only be spent that way.
