WORRIED parents are due to attend a meeting at a West Devon primary school today (Thursday), following the resignation of most of its governors last week.

Parents of children at Horrabridge School were not officially told of the collapse of the school?s governing body until last Friday. For many, the first they knew of the situation was an article in last week?s Times.

The parents are due to meet the former chairman of governors, Joe Sweetinburgh, to hear the reasons behind the resignation. They are also concerned about redundancies among the school?s teaching staff.

West Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett has also been invited to attend.

Last week the county council appointed an interim management committee to govern the school in the short term.

A council spokesman told the Times the funding difficulties at Horrabridge School had largely stemmed from a falling school roll, which had knock-on effects on staffing needs.

The meeting starts at 6.30pm in Horrabridge Pre-School building ? all parents are welcome to attend.
