DEVON author Michael Jecks will help make crime pay at Okehampton?s Oxfam shop next week. The popular crime writer will be signing books in the town?s Oxfam shop on Tuesday, February 15, at 10.30am. The event is part of a crime fiction promotion being staged by more than 150 Oxfam shops across the UK during the last two weeks of February. The aim is to boost donations and sales of crime, mystery and detective fiction. Funds raised will go towards Oxfam?s work with some of the world?s poorest people. Crime fiction titles are best sellers at Oxfam, and the Okehampton shop is always in need of more donations. Book volunteer Ann Brough said: ?We know the demand is there if we can attract enough donations. Some of our customers return week after week looking for titles they haven?t yet read; others are collectors looking for special or out of print editions, or simply trying to complete a set.? Michael Jecks? works are hugely popular at the shop, and the whole team is delighted that the author, who is an Oxfam supporter, has found time to visit them in person. As an added incentive, everyone donating a book to the shop will be invited to test their knowledge of crime fiction by entering a national crime writers quiz. The winner will receive a set of Penguin mugs, donated by design company Art Meets Matter. Oxfam is accepting donations of crime fiction now. Donated books will go on sale for two weeks starting on Saturday, February 12. Full details of the promotion ? and entry forms for the competition ? are available at the Oxfam shop in Fore Street, or by telephoning 01837 54675.
