A RECORD entry of 38 riders took part in the annual Tavistock Wheelers Yogi Cycling Hill Climb last Sunday.

The warm weather brought out a good crowd of spectators to watch the cyclists climb the hill from the Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale to the finish line at Rundlestone, near Princetown.

The ideal conditions produces a new course record from the winning rider Owen Owen of the Primal Europe team who was first with a time of 7 minutes 40 seconds; his teammate John Halbridge was second with 7.53.

Local hill-climb specialist Marvin Laing of Tavistock Wheelers was third in a time of 8.04, just beating last years winner and previous course record holder Josh Bullock (8.10).

Other Tavistock riders performed well including Richard Brown (8.49), Mike Deacon (8.54), Rod Stewart (9.3), Peter Branfield (9.4), Sam Waddy (9.35), Dan Worth (9.42) and Martin Williams (10.36)

Twelve year-old Robert Waddy, riding his first time-trial recorded a time trial of 14mins 16secs.
