A KEEN environmentalist from South Zeal has won a national award for his dedication to conservation work in Devon.
Peter Williamson lives at Meadowcroft, a supported living scheme for people with learning disabilities run by Guinness Care and Support.
He regularly works to clear footpaths and helps keep school gardens and local churchyards under control, as well as helping the Devon Wildlife Trust and Dartmoor National Park rangers look after historical sites and areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Guinness Care and Support has recognised Peter's hard work and dedication with a Friend of the Environment award, presenting him with a certificate and £100 at a recent awards ceremony.
Peter said: 'I think it's important to keep the countryside tidy so everyone can enjoy it. I really enjoy the outdoor life and my favourite job is sawing, especially if a tree needs to come down.'
Meadowcroft manager Sarah Lovett said: 'It's great to see Peter so active in the local community and really enjoying the work he does.
'We are all delighted that his efforts have been recognised with this award as thousands of people on Dartmoor benefit from his hard work.'
Peter won one of six Guinness Care and Support STAR awards designed to recognise people who are doing good work in their local communities.
