PEOPLE with limited mobility or young children in pushchairs can now make the most of what Dartmoor National Park has to offer, with a new online guide to easier walks.
Dartmoor National Park Authority and Dartmoor for All have produced the Easy-Going Dartmoor online guide, which will help the less mobile make the right choice for a day out.
The guide includes suggested 'easy going' and more adventurous walks, with route maps illustrating what walkers can expect in terms of gradient, surface, camber and obstacles.
For those with a Tramper — motorised all-terrain wheelchair — or an all-terrain buggy there is a route along the old Princetown railway with panoramic views across open moorland towards Plymouth. Walkers can even download an audio route description to their mp3 player with details of what can be seen along the way.
All the walks described in Easy-Going Dartmoor are situated close to car parking facilities.
There are a number of historic towns and villages within the National Park with many narrow streets and interesting architectural features. Due to the terrain many of these settlements were built wholly or partly on a slope.
