TWO enterprising youngsters have roped in their classmates to help them raise money for homeless people and a school in Africa.

Oscar Smith raised £85 for homelessness charity Crisis by asking his fellow classmates to guess the number of sweets in a jar.

He said: ‘I wanted to raise money for the homeless people because they don’t have the stuff we have like hot meals, a warm bed, drinks and family around them at Christmas time.

‘The message I’m trying to get out is, if you see a homeless person on the street remember how lucky you are.’

Meanwhile Hayden Cork, also a pupil at the school, has raised £15 by selling homemade pencil pots to raise money for a dinner hall at a school in Uganda.

He said: ‘The school doesn’t have anywhere to eat so they’re getting a lunch hall. I wanted to raise money for them so they could have a better place to eat because [at the moment] they have to eat outside with loads of flies.’
