A SPECIAL seminar giving advice about organic food production is being held at Lewdown next month.

The seminar at the Tuit Centre has been arranged by WestDEN's Sustainable Food Project and will feature information about organic farming co-operatives.

Nigel Carruthers-Watt from Co-active Limited (Co-operative Development Agency) will speak about agricultural co-ops and local organic growers will also talk about their experiences.

Pat Mayston, project manager, said: 'By the end of the evening it is hoped there will be a group of people who are interested in forming a support group for organic producers.

'Although dependent on what is decided by members, this group could provide information and support to organic producers, and consider the advantages of forming co-operatives and setting up joint marketing initiatives.'

She urged existing organic growers or farmers considering conversion to organic production to contact WestDEN and book a place at the seminar.

The event begins at 6.45pm on April 6 and will include discussion and questions followed by a buffet supper with local food prepared by the Tuit Centre.

There is no charge but places are limited — to book, contact Pat Mayston on 01822 614487.
