TWO West Devon establishments have received awards in the Organic Foods Awards for 2004, announced this week.

Percy?s Country Hotel and Restaurant in Germansweek and Eversfield Manor in Bratton Clovelly have both been commended in different categories ? Percy?s in both the sweet preserves and spreads category and the puddings and desserts category, and Eversfield Manor in the fresh beef category.

The awards are organised by the Soil Association, the UK?s main organisation promoting organic food and farming, and are in their 18th year.

Martin Cottingham, the association?s marketing director, said competition had been ?particularly tough? this year.

The two West Devon award winners were among approximately 40 individuals, businesses and organisations in England, Scotland and Wales which have been recognised out of more than 1,000 entries.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, George Locatelli and Darina Allen were among the distinguished judges who decided the winners in a wide range of categories including baby food, meat, vegetables and wines.
