Plymouth and West Devon Combination one

Wessex Rangers 3

Ordulph FC 4

THERE have been some classic encounters between these two sides over the past few seasons, but this without doubt topped the lot, which will be remembered by everyone present for a superb goal by James Phillpotts.

Both sides had chances to take the lead as the game was frantic and open from the start, however Wessex did eventually take the lead after a neat cut back allowed the Wessex forward to tap home.

Joel Anderson nearly levelled within a minute but saw his close range shot saved. However Ordulph were level soon after Phillpotts played in Stephens, who was brought down when through on goal and the nerveless Stephens despatched the penalty with precision.

Ordulph went ahead when Anderson squared the ball for Stephens to knock in for his second. Wessex still posed a threat, particularly Ben Woodman and James Cordon and just on the stroke of half time Woodman headed into level.

The game continued at a frantic pace in the second half and was of real quality and Ordulph went ahead with the a goal that had everyone from both sides applading.

Ben Stephens held the ball up on wide to the goal line and pulled the ball for the the on rushing Phillpotts, who hit a missile of a shot from a tight angle which bent away from the keeper in off the post and bar.

Ordulph were terrific for the next 20 minutes with Joel Anderson tapping home from close range from another Stephens pass to put the visitors two up, but at no time did either side think it was all over.

Ben Woodman smashed home from close range to keep the game on a knife edge. The fantastic Seb Krotke almost added a fifth in stoppage time only for his driving run to look like it was looping in but cleared off the line. Ordulph held on for victory in a pulsating game.
