Calstock A v Ordulph

ORDULPH lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a soft wicket.

The Calstock opening bowlers took a couple of overs to find their line and length and Ordulph opening batsman Crowl (30) took full advantage, taking 20 runs off the first two overs.

The Calstock attack of Mowbray (1 for 17) and Lake (3 for 37) took advantage of the variable bounce wicket to make runs hard to come by for Ordulph.

With the introduction of Lambert (2 for 21) to the attack, Ordulph wickets started to fall at both ends.

However, the Ordulph middle order of Smith (17), Folley (21) and Lethbridge (10) steadied the ship with patient batting and gradually pushed the score along.

With most of the tail chipping in with a few runs as well, the Ordulph managed to post a total of 111.

Ordulph had to bowl and field well to defend their score, especially as they only had ten men.

The opening attack of Lethbridge and Folley bowled a tight line and length and Calstock had to work hard for every run.

Bowling right through their 12 over spell, Lethbridge finished with impressive figures of 2 for 25 and Folley with figures of 12 overs, 5 maidens for 12 runs.

As a result of the tight opening bowling Calstock were feeling the pressure to pick up the run rate, which Lambert (22) and Davies with a quickfire 18 managed to do for a brief period.

However Calstock throwing caution to the wind came with a price as the accurate Ordulph bowling of Brayley and Smith took its toll.

With the exception of Mowbray (10) most of Calstock?s middle order and tail fell cheaply to the bowling of Smith (4 for 18) and Brayley (4 for 19).

Ordulph?s bowling was well supported in the field with good catches from Lethbridge and Smith and two good takes from keeper Crowl. Ordulph wrapped the match up bowling Calstock out in the 34th over for 77 runs.

This week Ordulph entertain Bude at Kelly College.
