DEVON and Cornwall Police Authority is looking to appoint two independent members to serve on the authority from November 1, 2009.

The members will help to secure an efficient and effective police force in Devon, Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly. This includes consulting the public about the work of the police and building partnerships between the police and local communities.

Members attend and take an active part in a variety of meetings, participate in public consultation on local policing issues and keep themselves informed of national and local policing issues.

Applicants should have good communication skills, knowledge of race and community relations and an ability to represent a broad range of local communities.

Bob Jones, chairman of the association of Police Authorities, said: 'Being a Police Authority member is challenging and demanding but it provides a real chance to shape local policing in your area.'

Application forms must be received by February 13. To contact the authority call 01392 268333 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
