TAVISTOCK Tennis Club opened its season with a mixed doubles Club Tournament where 20 players participated on a fine afternoon.
Pairs were divided into two groups with players in each round playing eight games, partners swopping over after four games. All pairs in each group played each other.
The two pairs of winners in each group played a one set final won by Sue Parsons/Phil Harbottle, 6-1, with the runners up new member Hilary Picton and David Martin. The event was organised by John White.
On the previous evening, there was a social event playing skittles, held at the Chip Shop Inn, where players divided into A and B teams. A won 281 to 252 and the highest individual score was by David Martin (14). There was also a fun knockout sudden death game later won by Jenny Read.
This was an enjoyable evening for the members, which was organised by Viv Iles.
