FANTASTIC! That was the verdict following the huge children?s Hallowe?en party held in Tavistock Pannier Market on Sunday. The party was staged by market traders in celebration of the 900th anniversary of the granting of Tavistock?s market charter ? it follows a successful party for senior citizens held during the summer. Mike Souttar, deputy market reeve, said: ?It was absolutely terrific ? the imagination that went into the whole event was great. ?A lot of people put a huge amount of effort into it ? it really was good.? Around 100 children and their parents enjoyed an afternoon of fun, including a disco staged by market trader ?Roger the Watchman?, entertainment by Butterfingers the clown and a variety of craft activities. The children were all given pencils with their names on, thanks to market trader ?Shaun the pen? and enjoyed a splendid tea, provided by traders and Somerfield supermarket. Mike said: ?For two hours the children were kept amused, happy and well fed ? they all behaved superbly and the parents were very helpful and supportive. Cllr Jenny Metcalf, mayor of Tavistock, presented prizes for the best poster and the best fancy dress. She also gave a bouquet of flowers to All Sewn Up trader Caroline Raw, who masterminded the event with the help of family members Stuart, Eleanor and Leonard. Caroline said: ?The whole thing was absolutely fantastic ? the craft tables went down a storm. Everyone joined in and helped make this huge frieze, which was five tables long ? it looks fantastic and we?re going to display it in the market. ?Everyone said how much they enjoyed the party ? even the parents did!? Caroline paid tribute to everyone who had supported the party, including Mainly Stationery who provided the craft materials, and Woolworths, who donated vouchers.
