IN two months' time a strategy for Tavistock for the next 17 years will be officially adopted which, I believe, will change the town forever from a pleasant market town to, effectively, a suburb of Plymouth.

I don't know anyone who is in favour of the 'preferred' core strategy, and I wonder what sort of pressure was made to bear on our elected councillors by the planners and big business for them to vote in favour.

The current consultation period can only result in minor changes to the overall vision, the implementation of which will result in an economic and environmental catastrophe for Tavistock.

Only a referendum will make our councillors rethink their decision.
