TAVISTOCK Under 13s (pictured right) enjoyed an idyllic tour to southern Spain organised by coach and manager Nigel Larcombe. The highlight was a victory against a XV comprised of the best 13-year-olds from the province of Valencia. Miles Ross and Frazer Carter scored fine tries in the early matches with Olly Whealdon converting one try. The 13-a-side matches during the previous days had been hard going as the opposition had been players older and bigger, but the final game was 15-a-side and, despite height and weight advantage, they showed their hosts how the 15-a-side game should be played. Increasing in confidence as the game progressed, they chased a five points lead and in the last 10 minutes dominated the game and camped in the opposition?s 22 metre area until Manuel, a guest player, crashed over under the posts to level the scores. The ball was thrown to Ben James to take the conversion to win the game in the dying seconds. The tour party returned to England flushed with sunshine and success leaving behind many new Spanish friends.
