I HAVE been doing some family history research and some of the 'clues' seem to lead back to Okehampton.
My research is about an Aaron Pine and Mary Kerslake, Aaron was born in 1836 and Mary was born in 1840(ish) Aaron and Mary married in 1864 and had four children: Annie Pine (my great-grandmother) b. 1867, William Pine b.1868, Frederick Pine b. 1869 and Henry Pine b.1871.
I know that Aaron Pine died very young, aged about 35, his occupation was 'Lamplighter'. I know nothing more about him, or where he might be buried. Annie Pine was born in Moricetown, Devonport. She married a Robert Henry Bailey from Exeter in 1889 and had eight children, one of which (Ellen) was my grandmother.
At the time of the 1891 census, Annie was living with her mother at 130 St James St (Sparrows Court), Okehampton. Her husband was working in Exeter as a postman.
They later bought a house and moved to 28 Mansfield Road (1901) and 9 Priory Road (1911) both streets in Exeter. Robert Henry Bailey had a job as 'Assistant inspector of Postmen' in Exeter in the early 1910s.
On the 1891 census, Mary Pine is listed as being a 'Laundress' and I think she was very poor! Some unconfirmed information from the 1881 census has the family living in Fore Street, Okehampton. There is also a Sarah A Knapman and an Arthur James Drew living at the same address.
Are there any readers who might have some information about the Kerslake/Pine family, who the parents of these two people were, and what happened to the other three children: William, Frederick and Henry Pine?
I hope some kind reader can help, or point me in the right direction.
