DON'T forget to nominate your West Devon hero for the borough's annual mayoral awards, before nominations close on February 27.

Across West Devon, residents work hard to improve the area and now their efforts can be recognised with the West Devon Mayoral Awards 2015.

The awards celebrate the unsung heroes and heroines of the area, recognising the achievements of those who have accomplished something remarkable in West Devon, or enhanced the reputation of the borough on the national stage.

Residents of all ages are eligible for the awards which fall into three categories:  a young person (aged under 18); an organisation, or person (over 18); and an individual or group who have made a significant contribution to the conservation and protection of the natural environment of West Devon.

Last year, the winners were Tavistock Memory Café, the Sticklepath and Okehampton Conservation (StOC) group and Tavistock College student Rebecca Venning who campaigned for improved youth funding.

Cllr Christine Marsh, Mayor of West Devon, who will lead the judging panel this year, said:  'I am really looking forward to reading the nominations and finding out about all the good work and achievements in our borough.

'I'm sure it will not be an easy choice.

'I would appeal to residents, schools and businesses to get their thinking caps on and nominate those individuals or groups who really help to make people's lives better or those who have achieved something outstanding.'
