A TAVISTOCK clay pigeon shooter continues to be on target after winning a silver medal at the UK 'FITASC' sporting championships at High Lodge in Suffolk.

Lawrence Barnes, 19, a former Tavistock College student, has set his sights on the Great Britain and England clay shooting teams.

FITASC is an international form of Sporting Clays and enjoys a following the world over.

Many would argue that it is the ultimate challenge in clay target shooting, and a World or European title is the pinnacle of anyone's shooting career.

He has been shooting a lot of this year's qualifying rounds to gain experience for qualifiers for next years GB and United Kingdom teams.

His father David told the Times: 'We have been running around the country, on weekends, staying one or two nights near to each venue and then shooting the event to gain as much experience as possible.'

Lawrence retained the Southwest Junior sporting clays title again this year, in a region which includes Avon, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of White, Somerset and Wiltshire.

The talented marksman is now the runner up junior champion of the UK.

He is currently in negotiations for sponsorship with two local companies, although nothing has been finalized.
