TAMAR and Tavy gig club are on a winning streak and were presented their latest prize by Olympian Ed Coode. Having conquered first place on the Thames 22 mile Great River Race they went on to win the Boscastle 5 mile open sea race last weekend; proving that they are more than just river racers. Boscastle presented a heavy swell, indeed it was too dangerous to enter Boscastle harbour itself, and the race ran five miles along the North Cornish Coast from Port Gyvernen in the sort of conditions Cornish Pilot Gigs are built for. The team, John Hillson, Lyn Hoskin, Sean Locke, Helen Dickenson, Richard Murrin and stroke Ian Paige not only led the mixed race but romped home comfortably passing gigs who were still finishing the previous event. Credit must also go to cox Kate Reeves who paced the team and urged them on. The team were proud to be presented with a signed trophy by Ed Coode. The club look forward to showing the trophy off at the Celebration of Trafalgar Night on Friday October 21 at the Wharf, Tavistock to the sounds of sea shanty crew Hanging Johnny.
