HAVING read the article about the Old Mill in Okehampton (Times, March 31), I was disappointed that a creative outlet was not mentioned.
I am not sure exactly what is intended for the property but have often thought that it would make a wonderful creative outlet for Devon/local crafts and artists.
Princetown has the Duchy Square Centre for Creativity which is a wonderful centre, including café, workshops for hire, tutorials for all, galleries and shop.
The Riverside Mill at Bovey Tracey is occupied by the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, which also runs an educational charity offering workshops for schools and colleges. It boasts a lovely café and gallery/shop selling the work of very talented local crafts people and artists. It also runs exhibitions.
The Mill in Okehampton would lend to something along these lines. Could not the beauty, hairdressing and other learning take place alongside a more creative aspect? Okehampton needs more creativity and rekindling of new and traditional crafts.
